On April 11,2013, Thornton and Grooms, a top local heating and cooling company, partnered with Absopure water and Ooh So Fabulous Events to support Covenant Community Care at their 2nd Annual Courage to Care: Inspiring Tomorrow’s Heroes event. The annual event is held to help inspire young people to achieve excellence by overcoming barriers to success.
Dave Knight, owner of Thornton & Grooms, says, “So many of Detroit’s young people need positive role models and to be shown that they can succeed despite the obstacles put in their path. We are proud to support this great event in any way we can.”
This year’s Courage to Care event featured Dr. Benjamin Carson as keynote speaker. Dr. Carson is Professor of Neurosurgery, Oncology, Plastic Surgery and Pediatrics at John Hopkins University. He was raised in Detroit and had to overcome several difficulties to get where he is today. He tells his story in the book Gifted Hands and the film of the same name.
Close to 4,500 attended the event, which was held at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit.
Covenant Community Care, Inc., who hosted the event, is a charitable non-profit community health center that serves the metro Detroit area. Their faith-based program offers medical, dental, and behavioral care to everyone regardless of their financial situation.
Ooh So Fabulous Events co-owner Tamesha Rouse volunteered her services and 14 years of experience to plan the event. She worked with Thornton & Grooms to deliver the beverages provided by Absopure for the 4,500 guests. Thornton & Grooms provided the truck to transport the water and a warehouse employee to help with the heavy lifting.
